CSO leaders undergo organisational behaviour management training

Paro, June 16: Leaders and senior managers from 20 Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and two Community-Based Organisations (CBOs) are attending a three-day training on Organisational Behaviour Management (OBM) in Paro to strengthen leadership and organisational management capabilities within Bhutan’s civil society sector.

The training, which began on June 15 and concludes on June 17, is being organised by the Bhutan Transparency Initiative (BTI) in collaboration with Save the Children and Respect, Educate, Nurture and Empower Women (RENEW), with funding support from the European Union (E

The programme aims to equip participants with practical leadership and management tools to enhance organisational effectiveness, strengthen team performance, and foster positive workplace cultures.

Dr. Chencho Lhamu, Dean of the Development and External Relations Department at Royal Thimphu College, is facilitating the workshop.

Over the first two days, participants explored a range of topics related to leadership, organisational culture, team dynamics, and performance management. Sessions focused on self-awareness and understanding team motivation, leadership theories and styles based on Daniel Goleman’s leadership framework, organisational management challenges, and designing jobs that motivate employees.

Interactive exercises encouraged participants to reflect on their leadership approaches and management practices. Activities such as “What Kind of Leader Am I?” and “Hawthorne in the House: What I Already Do?” allowed participants to connect theoretical concepts with real workplace experiences.

The second day centred on shaping organisational culture and building effective teams. Participants examined why organisational culture matters, methods for assessing culture, and strategies for translating organisational values into action. Discussions also covered the Competing Values Framework, team roles based on Belbin’s Team Role model, and approaches to influencing positive team behaviour.

Through practical exercises such as “The Polka Dot Hats – Discover Your Natural Team Role” and “Culture Shaping in Action”, participants explored ways to strengthen collaboration and improve workplace dynamics within their organisations.

The workshop also addressed conflict management and organisational performance, highlighting the importance of effective communication, trust-building, and accountability in achieving organisational goals.

Participants said the training provided valuable insights into understanding team behaviour, fostering a healthy organisational culture, and adapting leadership approaches to meet the evolving needs of their organisations.

The organisers expect the training to contribute to stronger governance and management practices among CSOs and CBOs, ultimately enhancing their ability to serve communities and deliver sustainable development outcomes across Bhutan.
